The new B&P powders for rifled barrels: analysis of the BP 100/109 series

By 15 January 2024March 26th, 2025No Comments

The new B&P powders for metallic ammunition will belong to the new BP 100/109 series, a line of propellants developed and studied by a joint venture created by B&P with a very experienced and well-known global propellant manufacturer.

The new powders, already included in the Baschieri & Pellagri Relative Burning Rate table, have been carefully placed on this combustion evolution scale, to cover all loading needs in calibers for short and long weapons; they are 7 different types.

We have studied the dosages caliber by caliber, evaluating the pressures/velocity with numerous tests at the BNP, processing these data we have drawn up our new reloading tables in which the minimum and maximum dosage are analysed, powder by powder, caliber by caliber, ball for ball with many possible combinations and various brands of components.

The two handgun powders BP100 and BP102 are reduced to flattened and smooth discs which are not very hygroscopic. BP103 is a finely granulated microspherical powder.

The 4 rifle powders, BP106, BP107, BP108 and BP109, are composed of a majority of spheroidal granules and a small part of flattened granules. All iron grey, always very smooth.
